Community Events & Resources

Strengthening community resilience through connection, support, and shared knowledge.

Overview

Community Events & Resources helps to build a more resilient community, while strengthening the social networks that sustain recovery and preparedness. The program connects residents to information, services, and gatherings that build trust and mutual support.

Strong communities recover faster — and stand stronger before disaster arrives.

Resilience is not only physical; it is social. This program creates spaces where people gather, learn, and support one another. Community potlucks, volunteer gatherings, and informational resources help maintain a human network that extends beyond emergency response.

The work also includes hands-on support for residents navigating cleanup, recovery, and hazard-related challenges. Whether coordinating resources, sharing information, or helping neighbors access what they need, the program keeps assistance close to the community itself. It reinforces a simple principle: people protect each other best when they are connected.

Key Activities

Air, soil, and human health testing connects residents with environmental screening resources that help communities understand contamination risks following disaster events. The activity focuses on access to testing information, exposure awareness, and informed decision-making related to environmental safety.

By integrating public health considerations into recovery work, this effort supports a more complete approach to community stabilization that recognizes the link between environmental conditions and human well-being.

Community dumpsters and waste support services address large-scale disposal needs tied to recovery, rebuilding, and neighborhood cleanup. Dumpsters are deployed for general community use as well as targeted support for households managing post-fire or post-storm debris.

This infrastructure enables safe removal of hazardous or obstructive waste that would otherwise remain in place and pose ongoing risks. The program supports both immediate stabilization and longer-term recovery by ensuring communities have practical pathways for responsible disposal.

Mālama Kula Events

We organize regular events for the Kula community.

Our community events and cultural programs strengthen social ties while creating opportunities for shared stewardship of the land. Recurring gatherings such as cultural talks, educational speakers, and volunteer-centered social events provide space for dialogue, learning, and collaboration.

These programs build trust, encourage participation, and maintain community engagement beyond emergency response. By integrating culture, service, and connection, events help sustain the long-term human network that supports environmental work.

Fire Prevention & Safety

Community resource distribution supports residents navigating recovery, cleanup, and hazard-related challenges by helping neighbors access what they need when they need it. The activity coordinates tools, supplies, information, and partner support that stabilize households after disruptive events.

By keeping assistance rooted in the community itself, the organization reduces barriers to recovery and ensures critical help stays close to the people it serves.

Kula Curbside Recycling

We will pickup HI-5 containers at your front door.

Curbside recycling collection diverts redeemable materials from landfills while generating funding that is reinvested into community programming. The program provides residents with a convenient system for collecting eligible containers and recycling them.

This effort reduces environmental waste, encourages responsible consumption habits, and strengthens local participation in sustainability initiatives. Recycling collection operates as both an environmental service and a community-supported funding mechanism.

Kūpuna Green Waste Pickup

If you’re 65+ years old, we will pickup green waste at your property. Please note that the green waste must be processed and ready for pickup before we arrive.

Kūpuna green waste pickup provides direct support to elderly residents who may not have the mobility, equipment, or resources to manage yard debris safely. Crews collect green waste from qualifying households to reduce fire fuel buildup and help maintain defensible space around homes.

This service prioritizes community members who face physical or logistical barriers to disposal, ensuring that fire safety is not limited by age or access. By assisting kūpuna residents, the program reinforces a commitment to equity while reducing neighborhood-wide risk.

Volunteer With Us

Volunteers are an integral part of Mālama Kula’s history and operations. Join us in making Kula safer and more resilient.

Volunteer field support enables ongoing participation outside scheduled events by integrating volunteers into day-to-day operations. Individuals assist crews with active projects, extending the organization’s capacity to address hazards and restoration needs.

This flexible participation model allows community members to contribute skills, time, and labor in ways that match operational priorities. Volunteer support remains a foundational element of the organization’s field presence and impact.
